Next Level Brands announces the addition of Matilde, an elevated coastal Mexican steakhouse, as the restaurant group’s fifth concept. The lease for the 7,600 square-foot space, located on the ground floor of the Arts & Entertainment Residences (AER), has officially been signed with an anticipated opening in early 2027. The restaurant is named Matilde in honor of Co-Founder Andrew Wright’s matriarchal grandmother, a fitting tribute that reflects the concept’s foundation in heritage, culture, and gathering around the table.
“We’re excited to begin introducing Matilde as it takes shape, gradually sharing more of the vision as it continues to unfold,” said Jeff Gigante, Founder of Next Level Brands. “Matilde will build on our commitment to shaping Tampa Bay’s evolving culinary landscape, introducing original concepts that push creative boundaries while remaining rooted in hospitality.”
The culinary program will be led by Next Level Brands’ Culinary Director, Jacob Rios, an award-winning chef who has helped shape Tampa’s culinary identity through national competition wins and appearances on Food Network. Director of Operations, Heather Rivas, will be overseeing the development of Matilde, leading the operational vision and building a leadership team to include a General Manager, Beverage Manager, and key front and back of house roles.
While in-depth design, culinary direction, and beverage programming details will be unveiled in phases in the lead-up to opening, guests can expect a restaurant that feels shaped by its atmosphere, built around scale and energy, and designed to shift from day to night.
Led by Founder Jeff Gigante and Co-Founders Joseph Guggino and Andrew Wright, Next Level Brands brings deep expertise in hospitality, real estate, and community-driven development. The group’s portfolio includes Boulon on Water Street, Forbici in Hyde Park and St. Pete, and Union New American in Westshore. Matilde builds on this momentum, extending the brand’s signature approach to hospitality, design, and culinary innovation into a new neighborhood.
