The on-trend flavor with a 15-percent increase over the past year.

As the appetite for bold, innovative flavors grows among younger consumers, Texas Pete is turning up the heat with the launch of its new Sweet CHAbanero and Habanero Buffalo Wing sauces. These dynamic additions tap into the rising “swicy” trend—where sweet meets spicy—that is especially popular among Gen Z and millennial diners. According to Datassential, these generations are significantly more attracted to sweet-and-spicy flavor profiles than their older counterparts.

Quick-service restaurants seeking to capitalize on this flavor craze and boost traffic will find these sauces ideal for LTOs, which 77 percent of operators are already leveraging to drive sales in 2025, according to Datassential. With versatile usage and bold taste appeal, Texas Pete’s latest creations deliver on trend-driven flavor and easy-to-execute promotions.

New, Trending Sauces

“Sweet CHAbanero combines the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, tapping into the swicy flavor trend,” says Katie Chaffin, director of marketing for Texas Pete. “Our Habanero Buffalo Wing sauce takes the classic buffalo profile and elevates it with the vibrant heat of habanero—a pepper that’s very on trend—adding an extra kick without overwhelming the base flavor.”

To develop its fan-favorite sauces, Texas Pete monitors data trends and listens to both its customers and consumers. “From the foodservice perspective, we’ve seen operators creating their own swicy sauces in house by mixing honey and hot sauce,” says Nikki Green, director of national accounts for Texas Pete. “Sweet CHAbanero combines two trending global flavors into one ready-to-use package for front and back-of-house use.”

Development

The decision to feature habanero pepper flavor is backed by data: according to Datassential, Habanero sauce is currently the #1 fastest-growing Mexican-flavored sauce and the fastest-growing spicy flavor overall, with a 15-percent increase over the past year. “We saw that and leaned into it, which is how our Habanero Buffalo sauce came about,” Green says.

Versatility also played a key role in development. “We focus on sauces that are visually engaging, trend forward, and practical for operators,” Green says. “One of our core strategies is creating what we call ‘plus-one’ sauces—where a base product can be easily transformed by adding one or two simple ingredients, allowing for quick, creative menu innovation.”

Operational Benefits

Using its ‘plus-one’ sauces, Texas Pete helps operators create new LTOs without needing to source new ingredients. “Operators can use what’s already in their kitchens and just add a Texas Pete product to create something fresh and exciting,” Green says. “We also provide mini bottles. They come in multiple flavors and offer more sauce than a single-use packet. Since they’re resealable, customers can take them on the go—in their purse, car, wherever—and always have hot sauce handy.”

Both of Texas Pete’s programs, the Table Caddy Program and Menu Mention Program, are currently being relaunched, offering operators new ways to partner with Texas Pete. “The Table Caddy Program provides restaurants with eye-catching, branded caddies to display on tables—operators simply need to feature Texas Pete products within the setup,” Green says. “Meanwhile, the Menu Mention Program offers direct support to operators who include a branded Texas Pete item on their menu.”

The Future of Texas Pete

Texas Pete’s team expects bold, globally inspired flavors and sweet-spicy mashups to continue leading the sauce game. “We’re always exploring new flavor solutions and ways to connect Texas Pete with consumers,” Chaffin says. “Innovation is key, and we’re investing in trend forward, easy-to-menu products that help operators stay ahead of what their guests want next.”
