Eckhart Beer Co. officially opens its first taproom and brewery in an impressive 7,800 square foot space that is influenced by the inviting ambiance of traditional Bavarian beer halls combined with a modern aesthetic. Led by their clear brand ethos – only put out what you truly believe in – the new space is set to be a neighborhood staple serving their already beloved high-integrity beer and a new high-quality, yet unfussy menu.
Originally founded in 2022 by Nick Meyer, the foundation of Eckhart Beer Co. is rooted in its name. “We are so excited to share authentic versions of these European styles, and to create a relaxed, welcoming setting to enjoy them,” said Meyer. “My studies in meditation and philosophy drew me to the writings of 13th-century thinker Meister Eckhart – now our namesake -whose emphasis on stillness coupled with time brings about clarity and attention that we carry into our brewing and hospitality.” Beyond the lager itself, Eckhart’s philosophy also guides the company’s culture towards being both refined and accessible. As Meyer quotes Meister Eckhart, “The most important hour is always the present. The most significant person is precisely the one sitting across from you right now.”
Eckhart’s beer program is defined by focus and integrity, with a core lineup of five lagers—Czech-Style Amber, Czech-Style Dark, Czech-Style Pale, German-Style Helles, and German-Style Pils—plus rotating seasonal selections. Head Brewer Adam Wolfe brings years of international experience, including lager studies in Munich and a diploma from the Institute of Brewing & Distilling, where he refined techniques like open fermentation, decoction, and long maturation. His philosophy of patience and precision ensures each beer is crafted in the European tradition, with balance, restraint, and broad drinkability at its core.
In the kitchen, Executive Chef Frederick Maurer presents a menu that not only pairs seamlessly with the beers but also draws inspiration from them, featuring inventive uses of brewing byproducts. Signature plates such as the Brotzeit Platter, Spaetzle Gratin, and Marmite and Malt Tarts create a dining experience as intentional and creative as the beer.
Guests will be enthralled by the intentional architecture and focused craftsmanship in the design of the brewery, inspired by the warmth of traditional Bavarian Beer halls reinterpreted through minimalistic Japanese design. Defined by clean lines and natural materials, the space harbours four separate rooms – a high-ceiling indoor biergarten, a tavern with cozy low ceilings and an intimate atmosphere, an elevated loft-style private bar area, and an open, airy feature bar made in celebration of the art of producing Eckhart Beer. Touches of antique tradition appear throughout the space, keeping the overall atmosphere modern and refined.
Eckhart Beer Co. officially opens its doors on Wednesday, September 17th at 545 Johnson Ave, Brooklyn, NY, with Oktoberfest festivities kicking off on September 20th. Standard hours of operation are Wednesday – Thursday from 4pm to 11pm, Fridays from 2pm to midnight, Saturdays from 11am to midnight, and Sundays from 11am to 10pm.
