The company recently shuttered a unit in Minneapolis

Steakhouse brand 801 Restaurant Group has filed for bankruptcy as it looks to restructure business operations.

The company listed assets and liabilities each between $10 million and $50 million.

The restaurant group operates nine locations—eight 801 Chophouse units and one 801 Fish unit.

801 Chophouse was founded in 1993 by James P. Lynch in Des Moines, Iowa. It is a classic, upscale steakhouse focused on steaks, seafood, and a traditional fine-dining experience. In addition to Des Moines, the brand has outlets in Kansas City; Denver; Minneapolis; St. Louis; Omaha, Nebraska; Leawood, Kansas; and Tysons Corner, Virginia.

801 Fish, a contemporary seafood restaurant, was founded in 2013. It has one store in St. Louis.

The restaurant group recently shuttered 801 on Nicollet in downtown Minneapolis. The location originally opened as 801 Fish in late 2023 but struggled to gain traction. It closed in 2025 and was rebranded as 801 on Nicollet, but the new concept lasted less than six months before shutting down this year.

The news comes as the restaurant industry continues to deal with beef inflation. At the start of 2026, the U.S. cattle herd was at its lowest in 75 years. In March, steak prices increased 16 percent year-over-year to $12.73 per pound, and ground beef soared 11.8 percent to $6.86 per pound, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

801 told USA Today that “Chapter 11 is not expected to have any impact on the remaining locations.”
